We have the former governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell and his complicit wife, indicted by the Federal Government on corruption charges this week. Naturally, he claims innocence and accepts no responsibility.
We also have Wendy Davis, state senator from Texas who lied to her constituents by embellishing her life story in order to attain office. She is not apologetic and accepts no responsibility, she does say she has to “tighten up” what she says. Bullcrap!
You may recall my mentioning on several occasions my belief that our politicians (for the most part) seem to be a bunch of crooks, hell bent on keeping the power granted to them by the people they were elected to serve by any means including: lying, stealing and cheating. They do not care about our country or the people in it, only themselves.
So, what do we do?
Vote. But vote intelligently, know your candidate, do not merely vote for a name.
Obamacare….disgusting…lies on top of lies…higher taxes, more regulations, inferior coverage….
Sochi Russia the Olympics…Americans stay away! I fear something terrible may happen to the innocents.
What idiot thought of this?? The United States military is relaxing dress code rules to accomodate religious beliefs: beards, turbans, yarmulkes etc. will now be tolerated. Are you kidding me? This politically correct bullshit is way out of line. When you join the military you become the property of the United States government, you have no rights other than those granted by the military. There is a reason our military personnel wear uniforms…uniformity. You don’t like it? Don’t join. This ship is leaning way too far to the left.
In economic news
The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) for December shows economic growth moderated. Led by declines in employment and production related indicators the index decreased to +0.16 in December from +0.69 in November.
The index’s three month moving average (CFNAI-MA3) edged down to +0.33 in December from +0.36 in November marking its fourth consecutive reading above zero. December’s CFNAI-MA3 suggests that growth in national economic activity was above its historical trend. You can view the historical chart at www.chicagofed.org
Also today (01/23/14) the Conference Board’s Leading Economic Index (LEI) was released and this index increased 0.1 percent in December following a 1.0 percent increase in November and a 0.01 percent increase in October.
Despite month to month volatility in the final quarter of 2013, the US LEI continues to point to gradual strengthening economic conditions through early 2014,” says Ataman Ozyildirim, Economist at the Conference Board. “The LEI was lifted by its financial components in December, but consumer expectations for business conditions and residential construction continue to pose risks.”
The latest report suggests steady growth this spring, but some uncertainties remain,” says Ken Goldstein, Economist at the Conference Board. “Business caution and concern about unresolved federal budget battles persist but the better than expected holiday season might point to stronger demand and could put the US on a faster growth track for 2014.”
In my view, we have about 6 months going forward until things begin to slow again, this opinion is galvanized by previous economic forecasts, ongoing economic news for the near term, the continued oppressive taxes and regulations imposed on the American people and American business and the general feeling among business people with whom I speak, that things just “aren’t right” here at home.
A side note:
US postal rates increase by $0.03 for a first class letter to the nearly round sum of $0.49 per piece. I remember when the cost of a first class stamp was $0.03…..They will be up to $0.50 before you know it. Is the postal service becoming better? More competitive? More productive? I think not. Is it possible the union members just wanted another raise??

(although these things go on knowingly between countries all the time, the fact that our president denies knowledge of this is just another sign of his incompetence as the leader of the most powerful country on the planet).
