Special Bar Quality Prices Ticked Up This Month on the Back of Higher Scrap Prices
Special Bar Quality prices ticked up this month on the back of higher scrap prices, with market participants seeing a steady course for the near future. AMM’s 1000 series hot-rolled bar price rose to $40.00/cwt ($800.00/per ton) on August 11. Prices for 4140 cold finished bar rose to $74.50/cwt ($1490.00/ton).
This comes after AMM’s No. 1 busheling price in Chicago climbed to $365 per gross ton in August, up 4.3 percent from $350 per gross ton. AMM

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York released its Empire State Manufacturing Survey results and reports business activity in New York State grew strongly in August, according to firms responding to the survey. The headline general business conditions index climbed to its highest level in nearly three years.
US Raw Steel Production Rose Last Week
US raw steel production rose 1% last week as mills operated at an ACUR of 76.4%. In the corresponding week last year, mills operated at an ACUR of 70.8%. Thus far this year mills have produced prox 56,000,000 tons compared to the prox 54,000,000 tons produced in the like period last year.
The Conference Board Leading Economic Index for July Increased
The LEI for the US increased 0.3 percent in July, following a 0.6 percent June increase and a 0.3 percent May increase.
The US LEI improved in July suggesting the US economy may experience further improvements in economic activity in the second half of the year,” said Ataman Ozyildirim, Director of Business Cycles and Growth Research at the Conference Board. “The large negative contribution from housing permits, a reversal from June, was more than offset by gains in the financial indicators, new orders and sentiment.”

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia released its August 2017 Manufacturing Business Outlook survey and reports manufacturing conditions in the region continued to advance in August, according to firms responding to the survey. The diffusion index for general activity fell slightly but continued to reflect growth. There was a notable improvement in the new orders and shipments indexes and overall employment expansion continued among reporting firms.
Charlottesville Protests
In my view, the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia was not called for and has no place in the USA. I am reading that there were several “groups” involved including: KKK, White Nationalists, White Supremacists, Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA and others on the “left”. The First Amendment gives us the right to free speech, NOT violence in support of conflicting views.
I am against the removal of Confederate Monuments; the Confederate flag etc., for these are part of our history as a nation and you cannot nor should not attempt to erase history. The “white” people (as the media labels them) were there to protest the removal of a statue of General Robert E. Lee and other Confederates who made history in our country. If you remove a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee, or anyone else you consider to be racist (Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt), should you not also remove the memorials to Harriet Tubman Jones? Rosa Parks? Martin Luther King?
The racial divide in our country is promoted and encouraged by those on the left, though they constantly blame conservatives for being racist. Fact is Democrats need a permanent underclass dependent on them for everything they need, so they foment division, promise to make it Christmas every day with more and more entitlements. It is nonsense aimed at getting votes, not helping the country or the American people.
CNN is reporting that President Trump is giving aid and comfort to Nazis the KKK and the other extreme right idiots but where is there a shred of evidence that he has done this? Because he said there was fault on both sides? These people weren’t fighting each other, so the president is correct. Again, all this racial bullshit is coming from the left to hide THEIR part in slavery and racism. The KKK was formed by Democrats, Southern slave owners were mostly or all Democrats. Why do they want to destroy our history? To hide the past and their part in it, that is why. DRAIN THE SWAMP
On Friday, Steve Bannon left his position at the White House after weeks and weeks of pressure from the Democrats. Nancy Pelosi is calling for the removal of all “remaining white supremacists from the White House staff.” What in the hell is going on in this country? This shit is simply insanity and how do the Democrats get away with this? Where is the outrage aside from this page?
Some left wing senator yesterday said the president needs to be assassinated. Are you kidding? A United States senator…and she still has her job! They are erasing our history; they are obstructing the president and hurting our country and the American people. This all of great concern to the well-being of the United States and no one on the news seems to be outraged or upset by the lies, innuendo and anti-American sentiment running rampant on the left. It sickens me to the core.
