Financial Conditions and Consumers’ Outlook Remain Positive

“Financial conditions and consumers’ outlook remain positive, which should support growth of about 2 percent through early 2020, despite the US LEI decline in four of the last five months. Its six-month growth rate turned slightly more negative in the fourth quarter of 2019, with the manufacturing indicators pointing to continued weakness in the sector. .

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index (LEI) for the US declined slightly by 0.3 percent in December following a 0.1 percent increase in November and a 0.2 percent decline in October. The decline was driven mostly by rising unemployment insurance claims and a drop in housing permits, said Ataman Ozyildirim, Senior Director of Economic Research at the Conference Board.

Declines in Production-Related Indicators Led to Fall of CFNAI in December

Led by declines in production-related indicators the Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) fell to -0.35 in December from +0.41 in November. Three of the four broad categories of indicators that make up the index decreased in November. The index’s three-month moving average (CFNAI-MA3) moved up to -0.23 in December from -0.31 in November.

US Drill Rigs Running Up From Prior Count

There were 796 drill rigs running in the US last week, up 15 rigs from the prior count but down 254 rigs from 1 year ago. Meanwhile Canadian drilling rose by 41 rigs to 244 which is up 35 rigs from the same period last year.

US Raw Steel Production at ACUR 82.7%

In the week ending January 18, 2020 US raw steel production was 1,928,000 net tons at an ACUR of 82.7%. Thus far this year mills have produced prox 4,936,000 net tons compared to the prox 4,812,000 net tons produced in the like period last year.

Musings From Las Vegas

I am in Las Vegas at the Sands Convention Center for the Shot Show sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) of which we are also members. We had a booth yesterday and finish up today with the Supplier Showcase. I thought the show itself opened tomorrow but it is apparently today. Joe and Anthony are downstairs saying hello to old friends and seeking new business opportunities.

The joke begins in Washington Tuesday as the “democrats” continue to lie to the American people as they charge ahead to impeach the 45th President of the United States. They should all be ashamed of themselves. Talk about the “swamp” it wasn’t 24 hours after Trump’s election that these shit bags started talking about impeachment. Since 2016 they have tried everything they could to remove Trump from office, fortunately all their attempts have been proven to be lies and this final effort about a phone call is the worst and I believe the democrats will hang themselves with it.

The president has yet to be charged with a crime, yet they persist with their lies. Quid pro quo didn’t work, bribery didn’t work. It is all lies, every bit of it and the “elites” have wasted years and millions of taxpayer dollars in pursuit of a thread of evidence to support their lies, but there is none. I personally, am disgusted by the whole thing. These people can no longer be called “democrats,” they are a bunch of radical leftists hell-bent on destroying our republic.

Fortunately there are millions of patriots in the USA and we will not allow these assholes to have their way, I can guarantee that.
