Federal Reserve Cut Interest Rates for the Second Time

On Wednesday the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter-percentage point for the second time in as many months to cushion the economy against a global slowdown amplified by the US-China trade war.

In my view, a rate-cut was unnecessary at this time. Despite all the hype, our economy remains fundamentally stable. Have things cooled a bit, yes, but not that drastically. Rate cuts are ammunition for stimulus during a recession…we ain’t there.

Empire State Manufacturing Survey September 2019 Reports Little Change

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York released its Empire State Manufacturing Survey for September 2019 and reports business activity was little changed, according to firms responding to the survey. The headline business conditions index edged down three points. New orders were marginally higher than August and shipments grew modestly. Delivery times were steady and inventories increased. Employment levels expanded while the average workweek held steady. Indexes assessing the six-month outlook indicated that optimism about future conditions deteriorated noticeably and capital spending plans weakened markedly.

September 2019 Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey Reports Activity Continued to Expand

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia released its September 2019 Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey and reports manufacturing activity in the region continued to expand this month, according to those responding to the survey. The survey’s broad indicators remained positive although their movements were mixed. The indexes for general activity and new orders fell while indexes for shipments and employment increased. The survey’s future general activity index moderated but continues to suggest growth over the next six months.

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index (LEI) for the US was unchanged in August, remaining at 112.1, following a 0.4 percent increase in July and no change in June.

The US LEI remained unchanged in August following a large increase in July. Housing permits and the Leading Credit Index offset the weakness in the manufacturing sector and the interest rate spread,” said Ataman Ozyildirim, Senor Director of Economic Research at the Conference Board. “The recent trends in the LEI are consistent with a slow but still expanding economy which has been primarily driven by strong consumer spending and robust job growth.“

US Drill Rigs Running Down from Prior Week

There were 886 drill rigs running in the US last week, down 12 from the prior week. Canadian drilling dropped by 13 to 134 drill rigs.

US Raw Steel Production at ACUR of 77.8%

US raw steel production was 1,811,000 tons at an ACUR of 77.8 percent. Thus far this year mills have produced prox 68,959,000 tons compared to the prox 66,455,000 tons produced in the like period last year.

Consider both paragraphs above, from the book “Atlas Shrugged,” you cannot help but notice that these describe the platform of the Democratic party. YOU have too much, You do too little for others, YOU do not sacrifice enough for others, YOU must sacrifice what you have worked for, YOU must deprive yourself of your God-given rights but YOU must grant those rights to others.

Let’s impeach the President, let’s impeach Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh, let’s confiscate all weapons from the citizens, let’s let anyone illegally enter into our country, let’s feed them all, let’s give all of them healthcare, lets raise taxes, lets have more government regulation, let’s allow felons to vote, let’s allow children to vote, let’s not allow prayer in schools, let’s not start the school day by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Let’s make scapegoats of “white” men, let’s allow our children and adults to choose the sex they want, not the one God gave them, let’s let men urinate in the women’s room, let’s let women urinate in the men’s room, let’s let women play men’s sports, let’s let men play women’s sports. WTF are these people thinking?

All of this nonsense while Iran has bombed Saudi oil refineries, while both Canada and Mexico have passed the USMCA and our Congress does NOTHING, while our President IS building the wall, and our Congress does NOTHING to secure our southern border, while our PRESIDENT eliminates government regulations, and our Congress does NOTHING, while our President has lowered our taxes, and our Congress does NOTHING, while our President seeks to re-negotiate unfair trade deals to make FAIR trade deals, and our Congress does NOTHING…
