US Raw Steel Production Notched Another Gain

US raw steel production notched another gain last week, rising 0.5% as mills operated at an ACUR of 79.5%. In the corresponding week last year mills operated at an ACUR of 75.8%. Thus far this year mills have produced prox 59,000,000 tons compared to the prox 57,000,000 tons produced in the like period last year.

US Drill Rigs Running Remained Steady

The number of drill rigs running in the USA remained steady last week at 1057 while Canadian drilling rose by three rigs to 212.

Conference Board Leading Economic Index (LEI) Increased in July

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index (LEI) increased 0.6 percent in July following a 0.5 percent June increase and a 0.1 percent May increase.

The US LEI increased in July, suggesting the US economy will continue expanding at a solid pace for the remainder of this year,” said Ataman Ozyildirim, Director of Business Cycles and Growth Research at the Conference Board. “The strengths among the components of the leading index were very widespread, with unemployment claims, the financial components and the ISM New Orders Index making the largest positive contributions.

The US Census Bureau Monthly Advance Report on Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories and Orders for July 2018

• New orders for manufactured durable goods in July decreased 1.7 percent. This was the third decrease in the last four months. Transportation equipment drove the decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.2 percent.
• Shipments of manufactured durable goods in July was down 0.2 percent following two consecutive monthly increases. The decrease was also driven by transportation equipment.
• Inventories of manufactured durable goods in July, up eighteen of the last nineteen months, increased 1.3 percent.

Manafort Convicted. Cohen Pleads Guilt.

OK, so Manafort was convicted and Cohen plead guilty, both on charges unrelated to any (non-existent) collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Interestingly enough, the left is painting the Cohen indictment as an effort by Trump to affect the outcome of the election when anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that Trump did not want his infidelity to be known to his wife, whomever it was at the time.

Quite frankly, I doubt the president thought he was going to win the election at the time the payments were made. This is what the left does; accuse without fact, or with made-up facts. It is all bullshit. As with the collusion accusations, nothing will come of this.

We found out this week that it was another illegal immigrant living in the US for the past 4-7 years, who murdered an innocent young girl, Mollie Tibbetts…and yet the Democrats want open borders. Why would anyone vote for a proponent of open borders? Why?

I will track these campaign promises and will check them off as each is accomplished adding those I have missed as they become apparent. This is quite an agenda and will be difficult to achieve all in one term, but I believe the American people are behind him and know these things need to be done. Now, if he can get our legislators to support him instead of fighting him….
